This page will be updated regularly with the latest VCU Health Richmond Marathon information related to COVID-19/Coronavirus.
Sports Backers, organizers of the VCU Health Richmond Marathon, continues to closely monitor the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19). At this point, the VCU Health Richmond Marathon, Richmond Half Marathon, and Allianz Partners 8k are on as scheduled for Saturday, November 14. We are looking at potential modifications and new ways of doing things in order to safely host the event on the scheduled date. This could mean everything from course changes to start time updates to new policies. The one thing we can promise you is we are working extremely hard to make sure you have a race to run, even if it doesn’t look exactly as we all hope and are use to.

2020 Peace of Mind
- Run the event on an official race course.
As you are putting in the miles and time now to train, we can promise you we are working to provide you a race to run. Currently we are planning to have an official race course that includes mile markers, bottle re-fill stations and a finish line to cross in November. We are continuing to come up with ways to give you the best possible race day experience and as we work through the official details we will be sure to continue to communicate these to you. Race day will not look how it always has but our priority has and always will be to ensure a safe race experience for you.
- Complete your race virtually anytime during the month of November.
If you are unable to participate in the event on November 14, you will have the opportunity to participate virtually any time during the month of November. Run or walk the race distance you have registered for, send us proof, and we’ll send you all the swag. To switch your VCU Health Richmond Marathon, Richmond Half Marathon or Allianz Partners 8k to Virtual, follow these instructions by November 13: Sign into RunSignUp > Profile > Upcoming Events > Manage Registration > Transfer Event. Make sure you pick “Transfer Event” not “Transfer To Another Race.”
- Defer your registration to next year’s event at no cost.
You may defer your registration from the 2020 VCU Health Richmond Marathon, Richmond Half Marathon or Allianz Partners 8k to the 2021 event. You may only defer to and from the same event: 2020 8k to 2021 8k, 2020 Half to 2021 Half or 2020 Full to 20201 Full. Deferred registrations may not be transferred to another person. Refunds will not be issued under any circumstances. Due to COVID-19 we have waived the fee to defer your race entry. All deferrals must be done by October 31, 2020 and may be used only for the 2021 event. You may only defer an entry once (i.e., if you deferred your 2019 entry to 2020, you will not be able to defer it again in 2020 to 2021). There will be no deferrals at the race expo.
- Credit your race entry to another Sports Backers event.
You will have the option to credit the cost of your race entry fee to another Sports Backers event that takes place through November 1, 2021. Please submit your request here.
- Donate your race entry to Sports Backers.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, donations are vital to our mission of inspiring active living in all corners of our community. Your support allows us to: Advocate for safe and accessible bike and pedestrian infrastructure, offer affordable free fitness classes, support running clubs at area schools, and develop fun, new participatory events for our entire community. Please submit your request here.
Though we are not able to offer refunds, even in the case of a race postponement, cancellation and/or if you are unable to participate, we do hope the options we have provided do in fact offer you peace of mind. We will continue to share more updates as they become available.
Sports Backers has compiled a list
