Along with VIP Treatment, All Half Marathon Participants Receive...
Every participant receives an official long sleeve technical race shirt, a custom medal at the finish line, and is admitted to a special post-race celebration with plenty of free food, drink, and lots of smiles and pats on the back. Finishers can redeem a free certificate to recognize and commemorate their accomplishment. The half marathon course also each features energy gel, junk food stops (for that extra burst of energy in the waning miles), and wet washcloths. Water stops are positioned at the start and at eight other locations. Diamond Springs water and Mountain Blast POWERade (the blue stuff) are available at every water stop on the race course. Assorted flavors (vanilla, chocolate & citrus orange) of Accel Gel are available at Mile 8 of the half marathon. Port-o-johns are stationed at the Start/Finish and adjacent to every water stop. Medical attention is available along the course.
Starting Waves
Due to the size of the race, the American Family Fitness Half Marathon utilizes wave starts. Participants start in equal size waves with others of the same general speed based on the predicted time indicated on their entry forms.
4-Hour Course Time Limit
All participants must be able to finish the half marathon in 4 hours. In order to do so, you will need to maintain a 18:19 per mile pace or you will be asked to move to the sidewalk to enable the reopening of the streets to vehicular traffic. At that time, there will no longer be traffic protection, medical aid or water stops offered.
